In late 1918 the brits took the Patt'14 rifle and mounted a german style claw mount system on it. Some scopes survived to generally have found their way into the surplus market - but not many.Especially since the brit scopes of the great war where not the most qualitative and or durable. Post WW1 the british and canadians scrapped 99% of their scoped equipped No1 MkIII rifles. Here are some photos but I am looking for more, especially US ones.ġst Canadian Parachute Battalion sniper (in the middle) : 303 n☄ MkI(T) but I have no information about the scopes. The M1 was also often equipped with a M2 flash hider (available end 1944) and replaced in 1953 by the T37 model.Ĭoncerning the Commonwealth troops the rifles were mainly SMLE. The M1C/M1D Garand (lwith 2.5x M81, M82 or M84 - from April 1945 on for the M84) was AFAIK only really used in 1945 and not at all on the ETO. But concerning the Unertl I am not sure if it was not only used by the USMC and I am not even sure if it was used during WW2. ![]() ![]() ![]() The US troops used mainly the Springfield 1903A4 (2.5x M73B1 or 8x Unertl scope). I am looking for photos of US and Commonwealth snipers.
